Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty.
That means we tackle the inequality that keeps people poor. Together we save, protect and rebuild lives. When disaster strikes, we help people build better lives for themselves, and for others. We take on issues like land rights, climate change and discrimination against women. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy life free from poverty.
We are an international confederation of 19 organizations (affiliates) working together with partners and local communities in the areas of humanitarian, development and campaigning, in more than 90 countries.
All our work is led by three core values: Empowerment, Accountability, Inclusiveness. To read more about our values please click here
About the MENA region
The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region implements and manages programmes in Yemen, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Jordan.
Programmes within the MENA region reflect Oxfam’s approach to work across the globe. We support self-reliance, not dependency, and to complement our work on the ground we strive to secure lasting change through our campaigning.
We also put women at the heart of all we do. The majority of people living in poverty are women and girls, and so this focus helps us to achieve our mission to overcome poverty and suffering.
Note: All offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory references and may be subject to appropriate screening checks, which can include criminal records and terrorism finance checks.
Oxfam is seeking an experienced and motivated person to fill the position of Project Manager to lead and manage an initiative that advances women’s voice and leadership. The project will support Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs) to strengthen their systems and structures and facilitate collectivization efforts through joint actions.
The role will provide strong, creative and inclusive leadership to the project team and ensure that planned activities are effectively delivered according to community, organization, and donor needs. Timely communication and contingency planning when and where required will be a crucial responsibility of this position to mitigate challenges and ensure smooth implementation of the project.
Oxfam has more than two decades of experience working on gender justice in Jordan and regionally with a proven track record of innovative approaches and a commitment to learning. Oxfam’s vision for Gender Justice in Jordan is that women and girls, in all their diversities, are able to realize their life choices in all spheres and enjoy their rights in peaceful and equal societies freely and without fear. The Gender Justice program focuses its work on addressing the (potential) impact of intersecting vulnerabilities that women and girls experience in Jordan, including patriarchy, poverty, conflict and legal status. Oxfam partners with women’s rights organisations to achieve transformational change. It supports inclusive alliances which champion women’s rights and challenge laws, policies and social norms which perpetuate patriarchy and inhibit women’s public participation. The program seeks to amplify the voices of conflict-affected women and girls seeking to claim their rights.
The role of the Project Manager will therefore include ensuring that young people representing intersectional aspects of diversity and inclusion are able to meaningfully and safely engage in and contribute to project activities.
Our role will require a range of skills and experience:
Education:
• At least a Bachelor’s degree qualification in a relevant subject, preferably in social sciences or humanities.
Experience:
• At least 5 years of practical experience in an NGO or the humanitarian sector, with significant experience working with marginalized groups with a strong focus on youth.
• Excellent knowledge and demonstrated expertise and experience on gender and power, diversity and inclusion.
• Experience in developing, monitoring and managing and work plans, procurement plans and budgets ensuring a strong eye on donor and Oxfam compliance where essential and necessary.
• Understanding and knowledge of humanitarian and development programmes and contingency planning for emergencies.
• Experience in working with and leading teams regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, or age with a focus on encouraging self-reflection and being non-judgmental.
• Excellent planning and problem-solving skills with a focus on creative thinking and negotiation, diplomacy and representation skills with all project stakeholders.
• Ability to work well under pressure to multiple demands, responding to changing needs, without losing sight of the strategic objectives.
• Well-developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations.
• Excellent written and spoken communication including presentation skills in English and Arabic.
• Commitment to the aims and objectives of Oxfam.
Experience:
• Experience in civil society (particularly WROs) strengthening and accountability.
• Experience in advocacy and influencing would be an asset.
• Experience in social norms and feminist programming will be an asset.
