The Programme
Axiom International are implementing a CSSF funded Police Reform and Capacity Building Programme in Jordan (PRCB) with support from our partner NICO. The programme aims to support key security agencies within Jordan to becomes increasingly effective, accountable, and better able to anticipate and manage threats in a way that is visible to the public. Key components of engagement include protection and security, police leadership, training development and management, community engagement and organisational change.
The Role
The Interpreter/ Translator will be engaged in interpreting for the PRCB programme and translating project-specific documents, as requested. Interpretation should be sensible to the local context and support PRCB in communicating in the most effective way with its stakeholders. To this end, the Interpreter/ Translator should prepare with and feedback to the PRCB team, ensuring that all information (also if not communicated verbally) is transmitted to PRCB, and that communication is continuously improved. Challenges with translation should be raised with no exception and discussed with the document holders. To this end, the Interpreter/ Translator will work closely with Subject Matter Experts and Programme Management.
The responsibilities of the Interpreter/ Translator include
Interpretation
Review meeting preparation documents, as provided by team members
Be available for in-person and remote interpretation, also on short notice
Share feedback with meeting leads and suggest improvement to communication to the Technical Lead
Translation
Translate documents, as requested, also on short notice
Raise issues for translation to the Technical Lead and Programme Coordinator and develop project-internal documentation to ensure consistency across translations
Coordination
Develop, under the overall guidance from the Project Coordinator, weekly schedules for interpretation and translation. Inform the Project Coordinator if there are limits to availability, well ahead of time
Ensure all documents, including translations, are uploaded to SharePoint, in line with project-internal guidance
Document work input on an ongoing basis and on a timesheet.
Location
This is a part-time role and in-person engagement will be required for briefings and interpretation. The schedule of engagement will be discussed each Thursday but there may be ad-hoc requests that may require re-location on short notice.
Reporting lines
This position reports to the Project Coordinator in the first instance, and ultimately to the Operations and Security Manager.
