The College of General Education invites applications for a Biology Technician/Teaching Assistant, starting January 2024.
Your Commitment
Assist faculty in preparing and delivering labs and classroom demonstrations.
- Prepare and set up laboratory experiments, ensuring equipment and materials are readily available.
- Provide technical support during lab sessions, helping students with experiments and troubleshooting issues.
- Maintain and organize laboratory equipment, ensuring a safe and functional environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized lab environment, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- Ensure all equipment is in working order and report any issues for repair or replacement.
- Train students or other lab users on laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with the faculty members to prepare a comprehensive list of lab materials, equipment, and reagents required for practical labs.
- Initiate orders, procure lab materials, and monitor deliveries.
- Maintain regular contact with the suppliers to arrange routine checkups, inquire about maintenance needs, and coordinate services as necessary.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of lab supplies, ensuring their availability when needed.
- Ensure the proper storage and organization of lab materials.
- Attend department meetings and training sessions as required.
- Any other tasks assigned by the department head.
Position Overview:
As a Biology Technician/Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the science department’s teaching activities. Skills
Education and Experience Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related applied field from a recognized, accredited institution.
- Prior experience in laboratory work, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of Biology principles and laboratory techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Dedication to maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and helping students learn.
Experience
- A minimum of two (3) years of full-time teaching experience in higher education institutions. Including teaching biology laboratory courses.
