The Regional “Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in the Middle East” project in Jordan is seeking a “Health Advisor” – for full-time base employment as per the below job profile.
Qualifications and specialist knowledge
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent is a plus) in Psychology, Social Work, Political Science or related discipline
Specialization in MHPSS with persons who have lived through violence and conflict
Internationally accredited training in psychotherapy or psychosocial counseling
Professional experience
At least 7 years of professional experience in providing psychosocial support to persons with experiences of violence, in particular refugees, children, and youth. Practical work experience in the facilitation of psychosocial support groups, a certification in a group therapy approach is a strong plus
At least 7 years of professional experience as a trainer in the field of MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support)
At least 7 years of practical experience in the facilitation of workshops and conferences
At least 7 years of practical experience working on MHPSS in at least 2 different countries of implementation of the regional project (Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey)
Professional experience in gender analysis and gender trainings
Knowledge
Profound knowledge in approaches for suicide prevention and practical work experience in the field of suicide prevention in Jordan
Profound knowledge on the impact of conflict-related violence on children and youth
Knowledge of stress management in teams and staff care
Knowledge of arts as a tool for MHPSS
Strong existing network with MHPSS actors in Jordan
Competences
Fluent in English and Arabic (C1)
Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams)
High identification with a human rights-based approach to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
Sensitivity to power dynamics
Critical thinking about trends in development cooperation and MHPSS
Non-judgmental, non-discriminatory with others
Team-player with strong people skills
Eye-level communication with partners
Core tasks
The GIZ Regional Project on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) connects MHPSS actors across different countries in the Middle East and provides technical support to improve MHPSS service delivery and promote context-, trauma- and gender-sensitive MHPSS approaches.The Technical Advisor will be responsible for the implementation of the Regional Project’s (RPs) Jordan component (component manager), reporting directly to the RP’s head of program, while assuring synergies between the different countries of implementation (Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq) and cross-country knowledge management.
In your role you are responsible for the technical, substantive and organisational implementation of the project’s measures and activities in Jordan. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3, and ensure the quality of the commission’s outcomes.
In addition you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification or realignment.
You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actors and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.
In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarising themselves with and performing their tasks.
Main activities
Perform administrative and management tasks necessary for the project implementation in Jordan (filing, contracts, M&E, PR etc.)
Steer activities on suicide prevention on regional level, including capacity development for state actors and the promotion of initiatives for suicide prevention through arts.
Develop and disseminate innovative knowledge products together with local actors.
Organize and implement awareness raising and piloting measures on the knowledge products developed by the Regional Program, including conferences and technical exchanges.
Provide technical support to Development Cooperation actors of other sectors for the integration of MHPSS approaches into their work.
Provide input in MHPSS coordination and technical exchange bodies and form strategic partnerships.
