Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional applicants at the Associate Professor level will also be considered. The successful applicant is expected to develop internationally recognized research and extension programs supported by external funding. Research should emphasize optimization of the entire production system that results in effective, resilient weed management, and may include applied agroecology, novel production-system enhancements enabled by computing and information science, nanotechnology, autonomous machines, organic agriculture and management of herbicide resistance. The successful candidate will lead an extension program in integrated weed management for specialty crops.Responsibilities:The position has 60% research and 40% extension responsibilities in whole-system solutions in specialty-crop production systems. The successful applicant is expected to develop internationally recognized research and extension programs supported by external funding. Research should emphasize design and management of the entire production system to realize effective, resilient weed management. Ideally the research program will have a foundation in applied agroecology and may include novel production-system enhancements enabled by digital agricultural technologies (sensors, data analytics, robotics), organic agriculture and effective use and management of herbicides. Extension responsibilities include leadership for systems-based horticultural crop management, maintaining integrated weed management guidelines in support of organic and conventional systems (including supporting registration of herbicides appropriate for horticultural crops in New York), and developing curricula for training extension educators and crop consultants. The extension program should be closely coordinated with other Cornell faculty, Cornell Cooperative Extension and New York growers.Qualifications sought Qualifications:PhD degree in plant sciences or a related discipline with an emphasis on weed ecology and management. A record of peer-reviewed publications, grant support and scholarly accomplishments commensurate with experience. Preferred qualifications include postdoctoral experience, successful collaborative experience and ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including students, colleagues and external stakeholders.
