Job Title School Counsellor Department Administration (Pastoral) Reports To School Principal Responsible For Health and Wellbeing of Students Purpose of the Position To help students in the areas of academic achievement and personal/social development. If students are not meeting academic requirements or are having disciplinary problems, school counsellors may need to intervene to remedy the situation. Meeting with parents or guardians, teachers, and administrators to resolve any possible behavioural or academic problems. Attend professional development workshops and educational conferences in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Main Tasks and Responsibilities The primary responsibility will be to mental health services to students when they are at school. You will be providing a comprehensive counselling program for all students including teachers, parents and colleagues; as well as assisting in the behaviour management of pupils ensuring that all student needs are being met.You will need to consult with teachers and administrators to assist in developing interventions and alternatives to facilitate student’s academic performance and emotional adjustment.Liaise between school and home to facilitate transition from home to school, to build positive attitudes, self-understanding and self-reliance.Counselling students whose behaviour, school progress, or mental or physical impairment indicate a need for assistanceDiagnosing the problems and arranging needed services. The person appointed must be open to cultural differences, experiences, and be non-judgmental and respect the confidentiality of role. Essential BEd or BSc in Education or Psychology with specialism in School Guidance Counselling or similar Proficiency with MS Office. Proficiency in English Language. Desirable Prior experience of working as a school councillor. Master’s or Post Graduate qualification. Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice. High level of IT literacy. Evidence of professional development. 3 years’ experience as a school councillor in Qatar. Skills and Personal Qualities You must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate with children, their parents or guardians, and teachers. Additionally, must have outstanding inter-personal skills and can relate to many people from many cultures.
