Senior Engineer – DesalinationApply nowMott MacDonalds Energy Sector is growing. We are looking for a Desalination Specialist to work alongside the Utilities Service Line to support the delivery of multiple commissions spread across the Middle East.Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but are not limited to, the below:
- Perform feasibility studies of new water treatment and desalination projects
- Carry out technical due diligence on water treatment and desalination projects
- Carry out regional site visits of desalination plants undertaking performance reviews and condition assessments working with the asset management team to identify optimal long-term asset management solutions for Clients
- Perform the technical review of the process / technological deliverables of engineering packages during the execution stage of desalination projects and attend technical clarifications meetings
- Advise clients during proposal (notably for IWPs / IWPP?s) on the most effective technical solutions for their desalination proposals and support them in the production of the proposal deliverables
- Assist design teams in the conceptual preliminary, and detailed design stages including technological selections for new desalination plants (including pre-treatment configuration, SWRO membrane system arrangement, equipment redundancy level, plant operation parameters, seawater intake, and brine outfall arrangement, remineralization technology, etc.
- Reinforce the planning and delivery of broader business development opportunities.
- Assist with the development of bids and proposals related to IWPs / IWPPs as required
Candidate Specification
- Degree (preferably Master?s) in Chemical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience in technical consultancy roles on seawater desalination projects (notably IWP?s / IWPP?s). Experience may include water treatment technologies
- Demonstrable experience in a medium to large water treatment/SWRO projects preferably including large water transmission and storage schemes
- Experience in the Middle East is highly desirable
- Knowledge of water quality parameters and they change from raw water, membrane permeate, wastewater etc.
- Knowledge of SWRO desalination plant design, operation, and optimization
- Skill in selecting/specifying the equipment/packages of the plant (gravity filters, pressure filters, DAF, UF, SWRO membranes, ERD, HP pumps, post-treatment, etc.)
- Familiarity with SWRO numerical design tools (including membrane projection modeling from well-known suppliers)
- Capability to perform hydraulic sizing calculations using spreadsheets
- Capability to develop a bespoke concept design for a new plant based on specific input data
- Skill in thermal desalination (MSF / MED technologies) is a plus
