Background of the Program:
The Water Innovations Technology (WIT) project is a 5-year $35 million USAID-funded program designed to increase water conservation in Jordan. Jordan has one of the lowest levels of water availability per capita in the world. Renewed action is required to make better use of existing water resources due to economic, population, and climate pressures. The WIT project will contribute to the overall objective of conserving water in Jordan, through the adoption and proven water-saving technologies and techniques, by achieving three integrated outcomes: 1) Water conserving technologies and behavior changes are adopted at the agricultural, community and household levels; 2) Access to financing for adoption of water conservation technology is improved; and 3) Institutions strengthened to support water saving technologies.
The purposes of the consultancy are to:
USAID through WIT project is trying to support the JVA in the thinking process to revisit the water and Agricultural policies, for this purpose USAID will help support JVA in preparing for a large-scale national study on water valuation and identifying the value for water for different crops and in different regions. The consultant will support JVA to put together this scope by meeting with different ministry officials and with donors, in addition to other market actors. The full study to be done by the JVA will come up with recommendation on the best value crops farmers can use in terms of water use and market value.
Consultant Activities:
The consultant will work with MWI officials including (JVA, MWI, and WAJ) to understand better what they need from this study and what it should focus on, such meetings will be translated into technical scope that JVA will later on use to do the National scale study.
