JOB BRIEF

Save the Children Jordan is establishing a Reggio-Emilia influenced preschool. This preschool is part of a social enterprise model, where the income generated will support women entrepreneurs in underserved communities to establish their own preschools and hire women in these areas.

The preschool operated by Save the Children Jordan is founded on warm, loving relationships between students, parents, teachers, and staff members. We provide children with educational activities appropriate for young learners, taking into account their physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs. We realize the importance of providing a nurturing, safe inspiring environment, rich with opportunities to be open and curious. We also aim to provide a supportive and inspirational working environment for all our staff members.

The Atelierista is a special teacher that has a background in both education and creative arts. S/He brings a unique artistic expertise to our young learners by expanding and deepening their ideas through experimenting and creating using different material, while adhering to Curio’s policies as the Save the Children Jordan (SCJ) Safeguarding policy and Code of Conduct.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Lead teacher / Principal

Staff directly reporting to this post: N/A

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensures a safe and child-friendly atmosphere within the atelier;
• Promotes and advances children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development collaboratively with other teachers through making the atelier a place where children’s ideas and thought process are made clear, noted down and their interests investigated visually and audibly;
• Welcomes the children ideas and projects and helps learners express themselves in as many ways as possible while teaching new skills and concepts;
• Works with children on creative experiences using a wide variety of media to encourage ideas, exploration and questions;
• Creates movement and musical experiences for children that allow them to experience the joy of movement, dance, self-expression while enhancing to their self-esteem, physical development and rhythmic creativity;
• Supports ongoing learning projects and groups while facilitating a system to introduce and explore art materials, nature, music and movement;
• Elevate the visibility of learners’ ideas and theories through documentation;
• Supervises student for whom he/she is responsible as well as other students in his/her presence;
• Supports teachers in creating activities seasonally or as needed;
• Plans and helps organize school’s celebrations in cooperation with other staff members;
• Supports housekeepers in maintaining the atelier and equipment disinfected and in good condition;
• Resources the atelier appropriately and helps in resourcing the classrooms;
• Purchases equipment and manages the music and art budgets;
• Evaluates the performance, progress, challenges and learning of students and reports on them to the management team according to the system in effect;
• Participates in outdoor activities with children for at least 2 hours per day;
• Participates in all school events including open houses, parent meetings, and others;
• Participates actively and meaningfully in professional development opportunities and attend all mandatory training;
• Performs other duties as assigned by lead teacher/principal/Superintendent;

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in early childhood education and/or visual arts, music, physical education, or related field
• Valid standard First Aid and CPR;
• Up to date medical and immunization record, including Covid-19 immunization;

Professional Experience

• 2-4 years of experience in a combination of the visual arts, music, physical education, drama or dance
• Experience working with children up to 6 years old in a classroom setting;
• Experience and flexibility working with diverse communities and families;
