Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a full-time open-rank faculty appointment in visual communication, to be appointed in the Communication Program.
We seek candidates with an active interdisciplinary research program that focuses on visual communication in the Global South, with preference given to scholars who focus on the Arab world, Africa, and/or South Asia, and whose research is comparative or transnational, who investigate such areas as image activism, visual media and culture, visual representation, digital imagery, interface aesthetics, and who include ethics, gender, race, and/or coloniality in their analysis. By the time of appointment, we expect successful candidates to have a Ph.D. in media studies, communication, cultural studies, or from related interdisciplinary backgrounds, and to have linguistic competence and field experience in their research area.

Our mission is to mentor and educate students to become creative, ethical, and impactful communicators across cultural and national boundaries. We are committed to a vibrant student life, academic excellence, and to high-level undergraduate student research and media making, particularly on the Global South. Located at the confluence of continents, NU-Q is a diverse global community with approximately 500 students from 60 countries.
