Job Description JOB PURPOSE: To ensure that all critical and essential maintenance and repair jobs on production machines are attended to with high urgency in order to reduce the amount of production down time.Number of Staff Supervised:Direct Reports: 7+ dependent on operationIndirect Reports: 2-5KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Ensure regular preventative maintenance: Ensure all planned maintenance are completed as scheduled to have properly maintained machines:Schedule checklist is reviewed and approved to be complete and up to date.Manage the attendance of all critical mechanical breakdowns: Ensure all critical breakdowns of machinery are attended to as a matter of urgency with minimum time spent:Breakdown time kept to the minimum as requReadiness and availability to attend quickOverhauling of all removed machine items: Ensure that all damaged or scheduled parts are either fixed or kept ready to be used whenever required:Examine the stock of repaired items to be labeled properly.Direction of Subordinates: Organise and supervise the activities and work of a small team of subordinates to ensure that all work within a specific area of mechanical activity is carried out in an efficient and procedurally compliant manner:Audit of compliance versus procedure and policy as and when required.Maintain the daily logbook: Review and sign the daily maintained records of all repairs and breakdowns for proper documentation and follow-up:Verify and confirm the exact description of the daily occurring activities.Verify received store items: Verify all received items to ensure their conformity to the required specifications mentioned in the Material Requisition.Only Material Requisition items’ specifications that match that of the received items are accepted.Train and motivate workforce: Ensure all Mechanics are trained to the plant standards and are motivated to enhance team-work:Motivate the current workforce.Train and have an effective workforce ready as backup.Safety, Quality & Environment: Ensure that all relevant safety, quality and environmental procedures, instructions and controls are adhered to so that the safety of employees, quality of products/services and environmental compliance can be guaranteed:Audit of compliance to safety, quality and environmental procedure and instruction. Frequency of ITI’s, safety incidents and near misses.SPAN OF COMMUNICATION:Internal: Production, Purchase Stores & HR.External: NILJOB RELEVANT INFORMATION (BOUNDARIES & DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:The Chief Mechanic’s decision is relevant to the work that is responsible for. For matters that are beyond the jobholder’s authority, the superior should be consulted.
