Overall Purpose of Job: The primary role of the Teacher Assistant is to assist the classroom teacher in all teaching and learning tasks assigned and implementing of the IB learner profile and attitudes.

Brief summary of major job responsibilities:

• Planning collaboratively with the classroom teacher using an agreed system and the PYP planner.
• Supporting individuals or groups of students during lessons as directed by the Classroom Teacher.
• Encourage the students to be independent learners through use of simple strategies e.g. questioning; modelling; using multiple resources representing multiple perspectives; pursuing open-ended inquiry and real-life investigations.
• Communicating observations and concerns to the Classroom Teacher ensuring all such information is kept confidential.
• Ensure a smooth start and end to the day by being proactive and using initiative to support the Classroom Teacher and students.
• Ensure classroom resources are organised and accessible.
• Support in other classes as requested.
• Supervising trips as requested.
• Support in any whole school day; Fun Day, Sport Day etc.
• Undertake playground; morning or late duties as directed.
• Assist the Classroom Teacher in the positive behaviour management of the class.
• To be firm but fair while enforcing the Essential Agreements of the class and the school.

• Be available to answer parent questions as appropriate if the Classroom Teacher is not available and to keep the teacher informed of this, remembering to use discretion and professionalism at all times.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

• Prior experience working with school aged children preferred. Preference is given to those with work experience in an accredited elementary, middle or secondary school.
• Enthusiastic willingness to work with children
• Self motivated.
• Strong oral and written English communication skills. Arabic language skills are beneficial.
• Skills to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; make common sense decisions
• Ability to promote and follow School policies and procedures
• Ability to exercise tact, patience, kindness and positive attitude.
• Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with a variety of age groups (young children to adults) including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
• Outstanding collaborative skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment
• Ability to stand, walk and work in hot outdoor environments for prolonged periods, adhere to schedules, be observant, work independently. Significant physical abilities include: stooping, reaching/handling, talking/hearing, far vision acuity/field of vision.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
• Criminal background check required for hire.

Working Environment: Based at ACS Doha International School campus. The contractual hours are 7:00 – 3:00 Sunday through Thursday but the nature of the profession may require work outside those hours on occasions.
